That's how I feel every time I try to sit down to start writing my list. I go through my day, and randomly a wonderful thought or idea will pop into my head, and I mentally bookmark it to add to my list later. However, it never gets there... It's not that the idea isn't meaningful or important, or isn't something that I really want to accomplish in 1001 days, but I just can't hold onto it. Maybe its my impending 30th birthday- early onset alzheimer's? Or maybe it's just difficult for me to sit down and solidly make out a plan- however casual it may be- for what I want to do with my life in the next three years. Maybe I'm afraid of committing to a list of things I want to accomplish, and then possibly not accomplish the entire list, and feel like a failure... I'm not as worried about the "easy" stuff (travel to XYZ, buy ABC, etc), but the more important, hallmark goals that I may not be able to achieve...
Anyone else feeling performance pressure about writing their list?

Ha!! I must have heard part of this conversation at the bachelor/bachelorette... but didn't even know you guys made a blog until I was telling Melissa about my list today!!! I made one within the week of the party! I must say I have nothing TOO crazy on there, but I just went with the first things that popped into my head... figuring they must have popped up for a reason! I have to admit, I also stole a few ideas from other lists I found online (yea, real creative right?) Anyway, I have already started slowly chipping away at mine... still LOTS more to go though!
ReplyDeleteI just looked at my list (which I did type out) and my starting date was August 12, 2009. Ha! Apparently I was VERY motivated by your discussion bc I got started RIGHT away!! :) (By the way...1001 days from that date is my 33rd birthday! - yes, I strategized a bit... I think the list was done on the 11th). When was the bachelorette??
